Pete Buttigieg is bad at his job.

As previously reported by The Drill Down, Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg hasn’t been very effective in his role. There was the FAA crisis; the rail crisis; the time he vanished on paternity leave while hundreds of boats gathered off the coast of California, unable to deliver their cargo.

Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) blasted Buttigieg for ghosting Uncle Sam while on paternity leave.

“We’re in the middle of a transportation crisis, and Pete Buttigieg is sitting at home,” said Blackburn. “Meanwhile, cargo boats are unable to dock and shelves are sitting empty. Pete needs to either get back to work or leave the Department of Transportation. It’s time to put American families first.”

In an effort to spin a damning narrative, Buttigieg hit every mainstream media outlet that would return his phone call. He would simply explain to Americans that, although he was on leave, he was available 24/7.

You can almost hear Jon Lovitz saying “yeah, that’s the ticket.”

“When you take a job like mine, you understand and accept that you’re going to have to be available 24/7,” Buttigieg told CNN’s Jake Tapper last August.

“As you might imagine, we are bottle feeding and doing it at all hours of the day and night. I’m not going to apologize to Tucker Carlson or anyone else for taking care of our premature newborn twins,” he added.

But Pete Buttigieg wasn’t telling the truth. Pete Buttigieg is bad at his job.

According to The Daily Caller, “Buttigieg was reportedly using his parental leave status to delay key meetings, including a call with Iowa GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley, according to newly released public records. Grassley’s office requested a meeting with Buttigieg about a Buy American waiver request for the I-74 bridge connecting Iowa and Illinois.”

The Caller adds the Department of Transportation told Grassley’s office on September 21, 2021, that “unfortunately, the Secretary is currently on leave due to the birth of twins, and that may lead to a delay in possibly scheduling a meeting in the near future.”

“It appears as though, during his paternity leave, he was not always available when called upon and did not have some necessary contingencies in place to ensure the continuity of operations at DOT,” said Michael Chamberlain, Director of the watchdog group Protect the Public’s Trust (PPT). “Perhaps it is not a coincidence that so many crises involving the Department, from the supply chain breakdown to the FAA system outage that grounded flights all over the country, have occurred on his watch.”

Nearly every form of transportation has hit a crisis on Buttigieg’s watch.
