Biden Says He Doesn’t Support Defund —But the People Around Him Do.

Who’s running the show over at Biden HQ? Why are we hearing about advocates for defunding the police visiting the White House when —we had been told —Joe Biden was not in favor of taking police off the streets in favor of crisis management workers (or whatever it is the left is billing them as these days).

Remember this from candidate Joe Biden’s camp in 2020?

“Vice President Biden does not believe that police should be defunded,” Biden campaign spokesperson Andrew Bates told NPR in a statement. “He hears and shares the deep grief and frustration of those calling out for change, and is driven to ensure that justice is done and that we put a stop to this terrible pain.”

Then, a year later, as reported by The New York Times…

“Asked by the CBS host Norah O’Donnell on Monday if he supported defunding the police, Mr. Biden answered: ‘No, I don’t support defunding the police. I support conditioning federal aid to police based on whether or not they meet certain basic standards of decency and honorableness.’”

But now, according to Fox News, who reviewed the White House visitor logs, Biden & Co. have hosted several defund the police activists over the past year. So which is it, Joe?

“While Biden has largely espoused pro-police rhetoric during his time in office, he has tapped left-wingers in sync with the defund movement to key positions in his administration,” Fox News reports, adding, “Rashad Robinson, president of left-wing racial justice group Color of Change, visited the White House last summer for what appeared to be a meeting with Cedric Richmond, a top Biden adviser.”

“We know that policing doesn’t keep us safe, communities do,” reads a Color of Change petition calling on supporters to demand defunding. “Policing doesn’t lead to thriving communities, investment does.”

“We must begin to envision the society that functions for ALL of us and we must begin by divesting from and dismantling the systems that unjustly harm Black people,” the petition adds.

According to Fox News, “Robinson has also celebrated the birthday of convicted cop-killer Assata Shakur by calling for progressive groups to get ‘bolder’ and ‘louder’ in their demands for police abolition and their ‘plans for revolution.’”

“On Assata Shakur’s birthday, we celebrate by being bolder in our protests, louder in our demands for abolition and thinking bigger in our plans for revolution,” Robinson tweeted.

These are the guests the Biden Administration is hosting at the White House.

Quick reminder…

Defunding the Police has been a complete and utter failure of a policy position. Murders rose 30% nationwide in its wake. The Wall Street Journal, in an op-ed entitled The Predictable Consequences of ‘Defund the Police,’ cited some of the negative effects of the movement.

From The Wall Street Journal…

Carjackings have become so commonplace in Washington that the local ABC affiliate is now offering viewers tips on how to protect themselves. Chicago and California have effectively decriminalized retail theft by raising the threshold for felony shoplifting. The result has been a rise in smash-and-grab robberies and store closures. There were 11 such incidents in and around Los Angeles between Nov. 18 and 28 alone, resulting in nearly $340,000 worth of stolen goods. Although 14 people were arrested, “all of the suspects taken into custody are now out of custody,” Michel Moore, the city’s police chief, told reporters. His hands are tied by a “zero bail” policy for misdemeanors and low-level felonies that is meant to reduce overcrowding in Los Angeles County jails.

Biden may not support defunding the police, but he has surrounded himself by leftists that do. Anyone who celebrates cop killers and lawlessness shouldn’t get a White House sit-down.
