U.S Customs and Border Protection apprehended more than 1.5 million migrants attempting to cross the southern border in the 2021 fiscal year —that’s a record, by the way. Border Patrol encountered even more —bringing the total to approximately 2 million.
Oh, and more than 40,000 were released into the United States on their own recognizance.
So the border is on fire, But every now and then, Biden likes to grab a gas can and see how high the flames can go. On the latest episode of Immigration Pyromaniac, Biden and his admin will end Title 42, the COVID-era policy that allows the CDC to turn away any migrants that may present, “a serious danger of introduction of [a communicable disease].”
With COVID rates waning and governors all across the country lifting restrictions and mandates, this move isn’t exactly a surprise — DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas toyed with ending the policy last summer, claiming it did little to prevent the spread of COVID.
And, that may be true. You can make the same claim about masking our elementary schoolers, but lefties are muzzling children every day (while going brazenly bare faced at the Super Bowl).
…but I digress.
Title 42 has actually been responsible for the deportation of more than 900,000 migrants since Biden took office —so it is doing something. And it had the potential to do more, but Ol’ Joe and Uncle Alejandro like their exemptions.
According to the Washington Free Beacon, “Critics of the Biden administration, as well as current and former DHS and Customs and Border Protection officials, have said that Biden’s exemptions to Title 42—which include children, most family units, and any migrants who say they fear persecution in their home country—have already rendered useless much of the policy’s effectiveness in discouraging migration to the southern border.”
“We were already letting in tens of thousands of single men anyway,” one senior DHS official told the Free Beacon on the condition of anonymity, referring to the high number of Title 42 exemptions granted by DHS. “So it’s nice that the Biden administration is making ‘open borders’ official.”
With Title 42 going the way of the dodo, and the Biden admin having no other means of deterrence (we already know Remain in Mexico is a joke) it’s not impossible to see a future where Border Patrol agents are logging 3 million migrant encounters at the southern border.
And where will Biden fly them all, I wonder.
