It all started with a phone call…

According to a new report from the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, and the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, the  51 former intelligence officials’ Hunter Biden laptop statement was a political operation from the start.

The statement was a coordinated effort with CIA contractors and top Biden campaign officials to influence (or rather, have the laptop contents not influence) the American voters in the final days leading up to the 2020 election.

According to the report, the clandestine effort got underway when a call was made from top Biden campaign official—and now Secretary of State—Antony Blinken to former Deputy Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director Michael Morell.

The committees found that, without this initial phone call, there would never have been a 51-signature intelligence report blaming Russian disinformation for the Hunter Biden laptop from hell.

New emails and testimony have revealed the following bombshells (from the report):

  • High-ranking CIA officials, up to and including then-CIA Director Gina Haspel, were made aware of the Hunter Biden [laptop] statement prior to its approval and publication

  • Some of the statement’s signatories, including Michael Morell, were on active contract with the CIA at the time of the Hunter Biden [laptop] statement’s publication.

  • After publication of the Hunter Biden [laptop] statement, CIA employees internally expressed concern about the statement’s politicized content, acknowledging it was not “helpful to the Agency in the long run.

The report concludes that “Without rigorous oversight of the intelligence community—and without proper safeguards to prevent the weaponization of privileged access within the intelligence community—rogue actors … are likely to continue engaging in political work under the guise of responsible action.”
