Why is the Biden Administration doubling down on teachers union president Randi Weingarten? This week, Ms. Weingarten was appointed to the Homeland Security Academic Partnership Council —a council, mind you, that makes safety recommendations for schools.

If we had to give Randi a pandemic report card, it would be an “F.” Weingarten pushed school closures, masking, remote learning —all things we now know to be harmful for children.

And they…rewarded her with more oversight and responsibility? The announcement was made by another administration flunky DHS secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who’s coming off a big “win” of 204,561 migrant encounters at the southern border last month.

“Leaders of our academic institutions and campus life have a great deal to offer in helping us counter the evolving and emerging threats to the homeland,” Mayorkas said in a statement. The group advises on campus safety, its website says.

Weingarten literally recommended dangerous, damaging policies; we’re only now understanding the extent to which she totally botched her job and hurt the nation’s youth.

Weingarten’s focus isn’t the safety of the nation’s children —it’s the radicalization of the nation’s children. Look no further than the American Federation of Teachers agenda from 2020. The Government Accountability Institute painstakingly combed through the docs so Americans could see what the AFT really prioritizes.

In 2020, a total of thirty-four resolutions were published by the AFT, according to GAI research. There were 227 separate mentions of “elections”; 165 separate mentions of “COVID-19”; 111 mentions of “violence”; 93 mentions of “race” (excluding discussions of racial discrimination, which add a further 32 separate mentions); and 49 separate mentions of “police” and “criminal justice.” GAI’s analysis of AFT resolutions shows the most frequent topics discussed in AFT resolutions in 2020 and 2021 were COVID-19, elections, race, violence, and criminal justice, followed by education.

That’s a lot of topics BEFORE education and safety.

Weingarten’s focus on promoting politically charged curricula often brings teachers and parents into conflict. It may even have cost Democratic candidates in critical elections.

But, instead of getting flushed, she floats to the top —ready for an encore to one of the worst sets of public policy decisions in recent memory.
