Remember the crack pipe outrage of February ‘22? Here’s a reminder…
After word got out about a $30 million dollar program that would provide “harm reduction” organizations with “safe-smoking kits” to distribute to drug addicts, the press started digging, only to discover that the kits included crack pipes —and we were all paying for them.
This was all in the name of “racial equity,” of course.
Backlash was swift, with many GOP lawmakers introducing bills to put a stop to this nonsense; Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) introduced the HUNTER Act as a shot at Biden’s son. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) introduced the CRACK Act to prevent policies like this from being funded.
But then, it quickly fell away —the nation’s attention swept away by another shiny news object. White House press secretary Jen Psaki insisted that the story wasn’t true anyway.
“They were never a part of the kit, it was inaccurate reporting,” Psaki said at the time. “A safe smoking kit may contain alcohol swabs, lip balm, other materials to promote hygiene and reduce the transmission of diseases.”
We now know that’s not true, thanks to the Washington Free Beacon. Investigative reporters at the WFB visited five cities and got five free crack pipes from “harm reduction” organizations: “facilities in Boston, New York City, Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and Richmond, Va.—included crack pipes in the kits,” WFB reports.
From the Washington Free Beacon…
“While the contents of safe-smoking kits vary from one organization to another—and while those from some organizations may not contain crack pipes—all of the organizations we visited made crack pipes as well as paraphernalia for the use of heroin, cocaine, and crystal methamphetamine readily available without requiring or offering rehabilitation services, suggesting that pipes are included in many if not most of the kits distributed across the country. All of the centers we visited are run by health-focused nonprofits and government agencies—the types of groups eligible to receive funding, starting this month, from the Biden administration’s $30 million grant program.”
WFB also torched USA Today for its “fact checking” on the story, which apparently included little more than taking the administration’s word for it (journalism!).
And not only did some of the safe-smoking kits come with crack pipes, but they also came with instructions on how to smoke crack. “The bag included directions for how to use the pipe, heat-resistant mouthpieces, wooden sticks for packing the mesh into the pipe, and alcohol wipes.”
Everything a drug addict needs to continue to be a drug addict.
The resurgence of the story had many members of the GOP making the same observation: in Biden’s America, it’s easier to get a free crack pipe than it is to get baby formula.
Harsh, but seemingly true.
