SCHWEIZER & EGGERS: DOGE Has Made Talking Budget Deficits Cool Again [WATCH]

These are the DOGE days…

During this week’s episode of The Drill Down, GAI President Peter Schweizer and Vice President Eric Eggers dove into DOGE — Elon Musk’s waste, fraud, and corruption-cutting task force.

“Doge is a really interesting phenomenon,” Schweizer said. “It’s getting a lot of attention, a lot of focus. They’re announcing things that they’ve uncovered every single day. And there’s also a little bit of pushback. You know, you found this piece from Axios where they are saying, ‘Their proposed cuts are lots of drips of water in America’s overflowing bucket of debt.'”

Schweizer continued: “And they go on to talk about how large the debt is, how large the deficit is, and what
DOGE is looking at saving is tens of billions of dollars. So they’re kind of saying this is not a big deal. And factually, they might be correct. But there are a lot of incredible details here and it’s not like you can avoid or should avoid cutting these areas.”

“I’m old enough to remember when Mitt Romney ran for president and the big issue was, ‘My gosh, this debt, we can’t keep doing this!'” Eggers chimed in. “And the Obama era came, then Trump took over and maybe we started to take some steps towards fiscal responsibility, but then COVID happened. As previous podcast guests of ours have talked about, we printed something like three generations’ worth of wealth infused into the economy.

“And that money went to lots of different places. And that’s the context I think we’re in where Elon Musk and these people are like, wait, we spent money on what?” Eggers added.

In the interest of full transparency, DOGE is sharing all of its waste-cutting efforts on its website DOGE.gov. During this week’s Cabinet meeting, Elon Musk stressed the importance of balancing the budget.

“I consider myself humble tech support. It is not optional to balance this budget, is it essential,” Musk said. “I’m receiving a lot of death threats, I could stack them up. I believe we can actually find a trillion dollars in savings. That can only be done with the support of everyone in this room. DOGE is a support function for the agencies and departments and find 15% reduction in fraud, abuse, and waste. We are bringing the receipts. Go to dodge.gov and see them. We will also make mistakes, and we will correct them immediately.”
