During a recent media appearance, GAI President and best-selling New York Times author Peter Schweizer explained how foreign nations—many of them adversarial—have pumped large sums of cash into American universities in an attempt to influence what’s being taught to America’s youth.
“Here’s the thing. They require, by federal law, the National Education Act, to disclose large donations from overseas. The problem is, sometimes they simply don’t report them or they purposely hide them,” Schweizer said.
Schweizer continued: “So, for example, if you are Qatar and you want to fund American universities, and you set up a
foundation in Canada and you send those donations to an American university, the university lists it as a Canadian donation, not as a donation from Qatar. That’s, in fact, what happened with Li Ka-shing, the Chinese billionaire who is linked to the CCP. He donates millions to the University of California at Berkeley, but it’s not listed as a Chinese
donation — it’s solicited as a Canadian donation.”
“They want to influence the curriculum.”
