You don’t want to be DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas right now – he’s having a week.
Secretary Mayorkas appeared in front of the House Committee on Homeland Security to defend his budget requests —he was absolutely blown out of the water, with many GOP members calling for his resignation or impeachment.
“This disaster we have at our southern border, this disintegration of our sovereignty, cannot be sustained. Anyone who has two brain cells that perhaps would bump into each other would know that it’s abject failure down there,” Rep. Clay Higgins (R-LA) told Mayorkas.
“How would you identify failure if it’s not what you’ve delivered so far? My God man, own the moment,” Higgins continued, later adding “You have been called upon to resign by myself and others. Next year, if we have the majority, which we shall, you will face impeachment. I ask you as a man, own this thing.”
Higgins is fired up —and it’s likely because he knows 62,000 illegal immigrants escaped capture in March, with 300,000 “gotaways” logged since October. Mayorkas is, objectively, failing to keep America safe and secure at the southern border.
Mayorkas was also blasted by the House Judiciary Committee this week —they also have a strong desire to push this guy to the exit. Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) compared the DHS Secretary to one of the worst traitors in American history,
“My constituents want you impeached because they believe you’ve committed treason,” Buck said during the hearing. “They compare you to Benedict Arnold. You know, no parent with the last name Arnold names their kid Benedict. They wonder what will the Mayorkas family do down the road.”
Ranking member Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) asked Mayorkas “have you done anything right?”
“Next month you’re going to make it worse,” Jordan added, referring to the lifting of Title 42. “We’ve never seen [you] do anything right when it comes to the border,” he added.
Brutal. Just brutal.
Even members of his own department don’t like the guy. Mayorkas released a 20-page report titled the DHS Plan for Southwest Border Security and Preparedness —and got torn to shreds by DHS staffers and members of U.S. Customs and Border Patrol.
“I don’t even know where to start,” said one Border Patrol agent stationed at the southern border. “Nothing in this plan Mayorkas says he’s going to do has even been started, and he’s not going to do it anyway.”
“The plan looks like an absolute load of bulls–t,” said a senior DHS staffer. “Mayorkas is filled with excuses and his solution is to let them in. If you look at the plan there is an inordinate amount of focus on processing ‘vulnerable migrants’ compared to the lip service of securing the border. This administration has always been set to release as many migrants as possible and then make excuses as to why illegal aliens continue invading our country.”
According to the Washington Free Beacon, “Mayorkas’s solutions to the crisis include providing migrants with ‘an updated information package to distribute to all noncitizens released from federal custody.’ Mayorkas also blamed Title 42, a federal law that gave immigration authorities power to rapidly deport migrants during a public health crisis, for exacerbating the migrant crisis by claiming it encouraged illegal crossings outside of legal ports of entry.”
“How naïve do you have to be to actually believe this?” said former Border Patrol agent Michael Salinas. “No illegal in my experience had ever planned to show up at the ports of entry to get processed,” said Salinas. “All aliens are well aware that crossing the river will be the best course of action for results.”
If the House flips after midterms, the GOP will be gunning for Mayorkas. That’s not speculation, that’s a promise from the GOP.
“Mr. Secretary, my advice to you is to begin your search for a different career field very soon because there will be an election,” Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) said.
Last month, Border Patrol Agents logged 221,000 migrant encounters, the highest since Biden —and Mayorkas —took office.
His days are numbered.
