The U.S. military grows more political by the day…
According to a leaked text message from November 17th, leadership at an Air Force base in North Dakota warned troops against attending an event where a speaker from Turning Point Action would be delivering remarks; career threats were made.
“Leaders, please exercise caution if downtown this weekend,” read the text message that was sent to Minot Air Force Base personnel, adding anyone thinking about going should “be careful” and “reach out for any concerns.”
The event: the “Dakota Patriot Rally.”
The text message warned “that participation with groups such as Turning Point Action could jeopardize their continued service in the U.S. military.”
Now, GOP Rep. Jim Banks of Indiana wants an investigation; he chairs the House Armed Services military personnel subcommittee and heads the chamber’s Anti-Woke Caucus.
“If Eighth Air Force and 5th Bomber Wing leadership do not carry out a full investigation of and take the appropriate disciplinary action against the servicemember who wrote the text message, it will, in essence, have permitted an airman to threaten servicemembers who hold conservative beliefs, to falsely smear a conservative organization as ‘alt-right’ and to interfere in the political process,” Banks wrote.
Leaders at the air base claim the correspondence was “unofficial.”
“Once the error was identified, base security officials corrected the message traffic to categorize the event as a local political fundraiser, with no security concerns. Further, the updated message communicated there were no issues with military members participating in their personal capacity – in line with their First Amendment rights. All Air Force Airmen have a Constitutional right to freedom of assembly,” a statement from Minot leadership read.
“Someone smeared and threatened conservative Airmen while in uniform, on base,” Banks shared on X. “I’m pushing for accountability now!”
But will he get it?
