Key Points

  • Dr. Anthony Fauci will reportedly get the largest retirement package in federal government history.
  • The 81-year old Fauci would earn $350,000 a year and future cost-of-living adjustments.
  • Fauci made $434,312 in 2020 – more than the President and all four star generals.

It’s good to be the COVID king.

The Daily Mail is reporting that the controversial face of corona, Dr. Anthony Fauci, will receive the largest retirement package in federal government history when he finally decides to step down, relinquishing his immeasurable power over policy.

Fauci has served 55 years as a federal employee and since 1984 has been the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAIS) at the National Institutes of Health.

If he retired today, Fauci would continue to earn $350,000 per year on retirement and his pension and benefits would increase with cost-of-living adjustments, according to Forbes. In 2020 Fauci earned $434,312 —that’s more than President Biden ($400,000) and every four star general. And at 81, he’s showing no signs of slowing down.

“I’m going to keep doing that until this COVID-19 outbreak is in the rearview mirror, regardless of what anybody says about me, or wants to lie and create crazy fabrications because of political motivations,” Fauci told CBS’ Face the Nation last month.

Facui has been an incredibly divisive character, with Democrats heralding him as savior and Republicans labeling him a power-hungry narcissist.

“I’m a Fauci groupie. I’m a thrice-vaccinated, mask adherent. I buy KN95 masks by the, you know, caseload. They’re in every pocket. I wear them everywhere except when I sit down,” says MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace.

But not everyone is so hot on Fauci…

“I would venture to say that thousands of people die in our country every month now because [Fauci’s] deemphasized the idea that there are therapeutics,” says Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY).

“Dr. Fauci, I think, is the most dangerous bureaucrat in the history of the country. […] I don’t think anyone has hurt science, has hurt the credibility of the CDC, has hurt the credibility of doctors, more than Dr. Fauci, because throughout this pandemic, he’s been dishonest,” says Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX).

“I didn’t create political divisiveness,” Fauci says. “And that’s the thing we’re dealing with. We’re dealing with the uncomfortable but real element of political divisiveness at a time when we are in the middle of a war against a virus.”

If we’re at war, Tony, you’re one of the worst generals we’ve ever seen —certainly undeserving of the largest federal retirement package in history.
