Stranger and stranger…

The Drill Down previously reported on the strange case of the stolen bag, which sounds like an Encyclopedia Brown mystery but, in reality, is actually about a Biden official stealing luggage.

As previously reported…

Sam Brinton, the deputy assistant secretary for spent fuel and waste disposition at the Department of Energy’s Office of Nuclear Energy (fit that on a business card), has been charged with felony theft after allegedly snatching a Vera Bradley suitcase reportedly worth $2,325.

Briton, who uses they/them pronouns, was caught in the act at baggage claim at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport on Sept. 16, court documents show.

Briton originally denied —but then copped to –the charges after it became obvious that they lifted the bag and was seen with it on at least two occasions while traveling to Washington, DC, on Sept. 18 and Oct. 9, The New York Post reports.

“If I had taken the wrong bag, I am happy to return it, but I don’t have any clothes for another individual,” Brinton first told the officer. “That was my clothes when I opened the bag.”

Turns out, that was a lie —and now we know there was another suitcase snatched by Brinton in Las Vegas at Harry Reid International Airport.

According to The Washington Beacon, “Details on the luggage-purloiner’s latest heist are sparse. Brinton, who identifies as ‘gender fluid’ and uses they/them pronouns, faces a grand larceny charge for stealing a suitcase valued between $1,200 and $5,000 from Harry Reid International Airport. It’s not clear when Brinton carried out the alleged theft.”

Some members of the LGBTQ+ community are having second thoughts about Brinton’s abilities to carry out his government duties —without scandal.

“The red flags regarding Brinton were overwhelming and obvious to all who cared to see them,” LGBTQ Nation reported on Wednesday. “Unfortunately, some of America’s top LGBTQ+ activists and organizations were willfully blind to Brinton’s shortcomings.”

15 members of the GOP are calling for Brinton’s resignation. Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA) and 15 other Republicans sent a letter to Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm on Tuesday calling for their removal from the department.

“We demand the resignation of Sam Brinton, and we implore you to set aside petty politics and appoint only the most qualified and dedicated individuals to influence America’s energy sector,” the GOP lawmakers wrote.

Things aren’t looking good for Brinton. Our advice: pack your bags —and only your bags —and hightail it out of D.C. before things get worse.
