The Biden border continues to be a total disaster.
According to a report from Fox News, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has actually started approving…wall projects at the southern border? The admin, of course, has couched it in all kinds of non-wall language but there’s definitely some building going on down in Texas.
“Mayorkas has authorized projects across the southern border to fill in gaps in the border wall and replace gates – even as the administration continues to urge Congress to end all appropriations for the Trump-era project,” Fox News reports.
Oh, so he’s like…building a wall?
The work is pretty extensive, spanning major border states like California, Arizona and Texas, including work in sectors of San Diego, El Centro, Yuma, El Paso and Rio Grande Valley.
And it’s all funded by existing appropriations to DHS from Congress, Fox News reports. Mayorkas’ action coincides with Iowa Senator Joni Ernst’s push to allow unused border materials to be handed over to states who want to use them for their own wall projects.
What was the Biden Administration’s stance, again?
“Wall construction along the Southern border in recent years is just one example of the prior Administration’s misplaced priorities and failure to manage migration in a safe, orderly, and humane way,” the White House said in a fact sheet on the plans last year.
“In one of his first acts in office, Biden halted progress on the border wall — a signature policy of former President Donald Trump —by freezing money for border wall construction projects and terminating Trump’s national emergency declaration along the border,” Politico reported last year.
And then, last April, this gem from Pentagon spox Jamal Brown…
“DoD has begun taking all necessary actions to cancel border barrier projects and to coordinate with interagency partners….Today’s action reflects this Administration’s continued commitment to defending our nation…”
234,000 migrant encounters were logged in April 2022. According to the Washington Free Beacon, the foreign-born population of the United States has reached its highest level in more than a century.
“Polling consistently shows a majority of voters disapprove of his handling of the border, including a Harvard-Harris survey released last month that found immigration was the third most concerning issue to voters,” WFB reports.
You know which issues were in the one and two spots: inflation and the economy.
Bad news for Biden. The administration has lost control of the messaging, and now even members of his own cabinet seem to be going against the narrative.
The wheels are coming off the car, Mr. President.
