GAI Director of Research Seamus Bruner joined OAN’s Fine Point with guest host Garrett Ziegler on May 5 to sound the alarm on Big Tech’s growing grip over America.
Bruner, author of Controligarchs, targeted tech elites Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg, accusing them of pursuing power over profits. Bruner noted both Mr. Bezos and Mr. Zuckerberg attended President Trump’s Jan. 20 inauguration, eager to cozy up and evade scrutiny — whether from antitrust issues or impending tariffs.
Bruner called for strong action: enforcing antitrust laws, slashing H-1B visas, and wielding FCC power to rein in Silicon Valley’s influence.
His message to the Trump administration? Don’t take the bait. Clamp down.
Bruner also blasted Amazon’s Bezos for failing to implement a “Made in America” filter for customers.
“I’ve been looking on Amazon for something sort of like it, but it’s a total scam because it’s these people who buy from TEMU,” Bruner said. “They don’t have a ‘Made in America’ button. I was actually in favor of Jeff Bezos adding the cost of the tariff. I don’t know actually how it would play out with, you know, your everyday Americans when they see the tariff, would they get mad at Trump? They should be seeing the tariff amounts.”
Bruner continued: “I supported Bezos in retaliation to Trump’s tariffs. He was going to put the cost of the price increase right next to the goods you were buying — a de facto ‘Made in China’ button. And it shows you how much of the goods you’re buying are made in China. So he should have done that.”
“We’ll see how it plays out. I know that Trump called him. He told Bezos to take off the amount of the tariffs next to each good. I’m fully supportive of tariffs. And if Jeff Bezos has to take a hit, I think his bottom line can handle it,” Bruner said.
