Biden Spends Unlimited Money on Ukraine But Can’t Afford to Protect His Presidential Contest Rivals?!

'RFK Jr and Trump need robust Secret Service protection. this can't happen again.'

Director of Research at the Government Accountability Institute Seamus Bruner spoke with One America News Network (OAN) this week about the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump and reports that security details have been scaled back for presidential candidates Donald Trump and RFK Jr.

“Is there something to be said about maybe upping security detail?” host Katie Smith asked Bruner. “Definitely getting RFK Jr that detail that he has been pleading for. So many people are coming out condemning the fact that the Biden administration hasn’t even thought about it. They immediately say, ‘nope, sorry, RFK Jr you don’t need it.’ What do we do? This is one of the things that our federal government should spare no expense.”

“I mean, they’ve spent $200 million plus every single day, in Ukraine since that conflict broke out, you’d think that they could spend a little bit of our money to secure our presidential candidates,” Bruner said. “Both RFK Jr and Trump need robust Secret Service protection. this can’t happen again.”

Recently, political commentator James Melville shared a chart on X supporting Bruner’s claim that the U.S. is pouring money into Ukraine (but is somehow too cash-strapped to protect political candidates).

A similar number was shared recently by the Council on Foreign Relations:

Since the war began, the U.S. Congress has voted through five bills that have provided Ukraine with ongoing aid, doing so most recently in April 2024. The total budget authority under these bills—the “headline” figure often cited by news media—is $175 billion. The historic sums are helping a broad set of Ukrainian people and institutions, including refugees, law enforcement, and independent radio broadcasters, though most of the aid has been military-related. Dozens of other countries, including most members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the European Union (EU), are also providing large aid packages to Ukraine.

Last year, Missouri Senator Josh Hawley unloaded on politicians backing never-ending support for Ukraine at the expense of the American taxpayer; “It’s not our checkbook … this isn’t our money. It’s the American people’s money,” Hawlyer told reporters, adding that America has contributed more money to Ukraine than all of Europe combined.
