- Encounters at the southern border cleared 210,000 in July.
- The Biden administration halted wall construction and reinstated catch and release.
- Our border is porous, but Biden giving millions to Tajikistan for border security.
According to Pew Research and reports from the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, migrant encounters at the southern border are at a 21-year high. More than 210,000 encounters were logged in the month of July – the highest monthly total since March of 2000. It’s a full-on crisis.
Southern governors, state officials, and law enforcement have asked the federal government for assistance, but their calls have largely fallen on deaf ears. Instead, Biden halted wall construction, reinstated catch and release, and ended the remain in Mexico agreement.
Under Trump, more than 80% of illegal crossings resulted in expulsion. Under Biden, just 47%. A shocking number, to be sure. And now, to add insult to injury, the Biden administration is spending millions of dollars to beef up border security in another country.
“The U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe has launched a project to construct new facilities for a Border Service detachment along the Tajik-Afghan-Uzbek border, allowing Tajikistan’s border troops to deploy more quickly in response to threats in the region,” Fox News reports.
“The United States and Tajikistan enjoy strong security cooperation, and this border detachment project is just another example of our shared commitment to the security and sovereignty of Tajikistan and Central Asia,” Ambassador John Pommersheim said in a statement.
According to Fox News, since 2002 the U.S. has provided $300 million in security assistance to Tajikistan to protect them from neighboring Afghanistan. This includes border outposts, border checkpoint facilities, and training centers for guards.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott shared his frustrations on Twitter saying, “Biden has consistently demonstrated his outright refusal to put Americans first. This is a slap in the face to all law enforcement personnel who fight night & day to keep our southern border secure. Texas will continue to step up where Biden fails.”
I’m sure the citizens of Tajikistan will sleep soundly with the added security. Why can’t we give the same peace of mind to Americans in border towns?
