Key Points

  • More than 10,000 immigrants have gathered under a bridge in Del Rio, Texas.
  • Drone footage of the heartbreaking scene was shared by Fox News and others.
  • The Biden admin and FAA are now restricting airspace above the scene.

More than 200,000 immigrant encounters were logged by the U.S. Customs & Border Patrol in August – and September isn’t looking much better. Right now, more than 10,000 immigrants are camped out under the international bridge in Del Rio, Texas.

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) says it’s the “most horrific thing” he’s ever seen.

“There are 10,503 people under that bridge. It is packed-in as a mass of humanity…they take your breath away because it just goes on and on and on, infants, little children, people, people struggling enormously…”

Videos of the bridge gathering were shared by Fox News, who used a drone to capture the crisis from above. The footage was quickly shared on social media. Now, the Biden administration is trying to get the genie back in the bottle, restricting airspace above the heartbreaking scene.

“The Border Patrol requested the temporary flight restriction due to drones interfering with law enforcement flights on the border. As with any temporary flight restriction, media is able to call the FAA to make requests to operate in the area,” the FAA said in a statement.

Senator Cruz and Fox News say this is just another attempt to keep the border crisis out of the public consciousness, ignoring the crisis at our own peril.

“So, now the FAA is saying please, no journalists allowed,” said Cruz on Fox News. “As you know, they did the same thing in the Donna tent facility in the Rio Grande Valley where they wouldn’t allow Fox News to come in when I brought 19 senators to the Rio Grande Valley, I had to go in with my cell phone and photograph and take videos.”

“We won’t let the FAA control the news you get,” Tucker Carlson said on Twitter. “Watch this video and see how @faanews tried to shut down our newsgathering on the southern border. That can’t happen.”

The crisis at the international bridge is another unforced error from the Biden administration. Recently, they announced they would no longer make deportation flights back to Haiti.

85% of the people under the bridge are from Haiti.
