Any thoughts on why everyone’s favorite Democratic-Socialist is slow-walking her 2021 finances to the House Ethics Committee? It certainly does raise a few eyebrows.

Ms. Tax-the-Rich Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has openly admitted, via her spokeswoman, that she’s in no rush to file her finances —she has 20 more days, okay?!

“The committee provides a 30-day grace period before fines are levied. The congresswoman plans to file before the period expires,” Ocasio-Cortez communications director Lauren Hitt told the Washington Examiner on Tuesday evening.

Maybe she’s more fond of capitalism than she lets on —remember this (via The New York Post):

The Democratic socialist lawmaker’s website is now selling a bunch of pricey apparel with trendy slogans like “Abolish ICE,” “Drink water & don’t be racist” and “Tax the rich.”

The line of merchandise caught the eye of pundits on Twitter who pointed out the hypocrisy of an anti-capitalism legislator coming up with their own clothing line.

“AOC is selling $65 dollar sweatshirts that say ‘tax the rich’ that only rich ppl can afford. Should just say ‘Tax Me,’” wrote user @MattsIdeaShop on Wednesday with a photo of the “Tax the rich” top.

$65 dollar sweatshirts? You don’t say. “Only the rich can afford this idiotic sweatshirt,” added Daily Wire editor Ben Shapiro said at the time.

So why the delay in reporting? According to the Washington Examiner, “Ocasio-Cortez is one of only 10 members of the House that have yet to file their 2021 financial disclosure, which almost all members of the lower chamber were required to submit no later than Aug. 13.”

“Not only is she an admitted scofflaw — she’s a repeat offender,” said Paul Kamenar, an attorney for the National Legal and Policy Center, a conservative ethics watchdog group. “One must wonder whether she also files her income tax returns past the deadlines.”

“Just like AOC did in 2020 when she filed her 2019 disclosure report 30 days late after the 90-day extension, she’s at it again, blowing off the deadline for filing her 2021 filing that was due on Aug. 13,” Kamenar added.

She’ll be more than “fake arrested” if she keeps this up.

“The fine Ocasio-Cortez would face if she’s more than 30 days late filing her financial disclosure is minor — just $200. However, it’s not the first time the lawmaker has exploited the 30-day grace period to delay publicly disclosing her finances without financial penalty.”

Okay, maybe it’s not much worse than being “fake arrested.”

But, as Ms. Ocasio-Cortez has said herself, paraphrasing from The Washington Examiner, “American democracy is undermined when lawmakers are merely perceived to have acted improperly in regard to their personal finances.”
