White House communications director Kate Bedingfield provided the first official response to the Hunter Biden scandals a little over a week ago: “We absolutely stand by the president’s comment” that “nothing was unethical” in Hunter’s business dealings.
Press Secretary Jen Psaki, when pushed by Fox News’ Peter Doocy said, “Well, that’s something the president has said, and certainly we would echo,” going on to suggest that the DOJ was capable of an independent investigation.
“The president has never had a conversation with the Department of Justice about any investigations into any member of his family,” Psaki replied. “He said that during the campaign, and he will continue to abide by that.”
(Merrick Garland likely has a full docket, anyway —going after all those school parent terrorists.)
This thing is way too close to the Oval. Americans can’t count on Garland’s DOJ or anyone else under presidential purview —there needs to be a special counsel appointed. Even if US attorney for Delaware David Weiss corners Hunter in his case, he may miss the ripest plums: influence peddling and corruption.
According to The Hill…
This is not to say that Weiss, the U.S. Attorney investigating Hunter Biden, will not be independent in his efforts. However, the concern is the appearance of how a conflict might affect the investigation or limit the scope of any potential charges. Moreover, absent a special counsel, there is unlikely to be a report on these apparent influence peddling schemes.
The corporate media has finally copped to the laptop’s existence. If that’s real, then everything Psaki and the White House say is moot —it’s demonstrably false and has been for some time, mind you. Hunter sold access to his father; one witness in Weiss’ case says “the big guy” is Joe.
The Russia hoax plagued Trump for all four years of his presidency. Democrats went at him like rabid dogs. Skip forward to present day, where the whole world can easily read and reference the digital paper trail of Hunter Biden’s crimes and…and…
*crickets*
The New York Post editorial board says, “It’s easy to imagine White House demands for Garland to leash and muzzle Weiss.” And they’re right. The White House will duck this as long as possible, counting on the silence and indifference of America’s media outlets and legal institutions.
Don’t let it happen —we need special counsel appointed yesterday.
