Director of Research at the Government Accountability Institute Seamus Bruner recently joined Washington Watch, a Family Research Council program, to discuss Democrat VP selection and Minnesota governor Tim Walz’s connections to communist China.
“The stolen valor stuff is a total disgrace. We’re finding out more and more examples of times that Tim Walz misrepresented his rank, and tried to insinuate that he was actually deployed to a war zone,” Bruner said, before pivoting to Walz’s ties to the CCP.
“Pretending to be a war hero is a disgrace. But it’s even more egregious when you consider the fact that Tim Walz has been cozying up to America’s number-one adversary for going on 30-plus years. And so, if you start at the beginning in 1989, Tim Walz was in China. He then promptly sets up a company called Educational Travel Adventures Incorporated and begins taking American students to China,” Bruner continues.
“And he has nothing but effusive praise to lavish on the Chinese. And he tells his students on these trips he’s taken more than 30, which is bizarre in and of itself. How many, governors of states in America have taken 30-plus trips to China?” Bruner asked.
“He tells his students on these trips to ‘downplay your Americanness.’ Don’t try to make it seem like you’re an American patriot here. And so what does he get from the Chinese Communist Party? Well, they start subsidizing these trips. This was reported in local press. The CCP actually paid for scholarships to bring Walz and his students to China for these cultural exchanges.”
“There’s also visits with diplomats from the CCP and even some of them attending his gubernatorial inauguration — that is pretty alarming,” Bruner said.
