Did we really need former Facebook product manager Frances Haugen to tell us that a company founded by a man who started his career making a website that rated women based on looks isn’t exactly filled with saintly do-gooders?

No, we didn’t.

And now, news outlets and web sleuths have started digging through Haugen’s own personal history and political connections. GAI fellow Lee Smith has just published an excellent article for Tablet Magazine, entitled “The Facebook Whistleblower Op.”

“Haugen’s work at Facebook had nothing to do with improving the human condition or helping teenage girls through the difficulties of adolescence. She joined the company in 2019 reportedly on the condition that she be assigned to its civic integrity unit, responsible for tracking “misinformation” concerning the 2020 election. Most famously, the unit censored preelection reports of a laptop belonging to Hunter Biden that gave evidence of his financial arrangements with corrupt foreign officials and businesses. Labeled “misinformation” and banned from Facebook and other social media sites a month before the election, the information turned out to be entirely real.”
