Prominent GOP voice and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is joining the growing chorus of concerned lawmakers speaking out against China’s massive land grabs in America’s heartland. DeSantis spoke with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham on a recent episode The Ingraham Angle.
“I don’t think they should be able to do it,” DeSantis told Fox News host Laura Ingraham.
“I think the problem is these companies have ties to the CCP, and it’s not always apparent on the face of whatever a company is doing — but I think it’s a huge problem,” he said.
“We’re also probably going to do legislation next legislative session about our pension investments, with things that may be linked to the CCP,” he added. “We don’t necessarily have a lot of it, but we want to make sure that we’re cutting ties so that we’re not funding our number-one adversary.”
As previously reported by The Drill Down, Chinese companies with CCP ties are making major land purchases —including farmland and land near U.S. military bases.
Including one location that’s 20 minutes away from Grand Forks Air Force Base. Air Force Major Jeremy Fox wrote a memo back in April after the purchase.
“Some of the most sensitive elements of Grand Forks exist with the digital uplinks and downlinks inherent with unmanned air systems and their interaction with space-based assets,” Fox wrote, adding such interceptions would “present a costly national security risk causing grave damage to United States’ strategic advantages.”
“Passive collection of those signals would be undetectable, as the requirements to do so would merely require ordinary antennas tuned to the right collecting frequencies,” Fox says. “This introduces a grave vulnerability to our Department of Defense installations and is incredibly compromising to US National Security.”
And that’s not the only purchase near a military base. In fact, most land is near locations that harbor sensitive information.
“Most of the land is very close to sensitive US military installations,” investigative reporter Sara Carter told Fox News. “For example, in 2021, 130,000 acres of land was purchased right here in Del Rio, Texas, along the US-Mexico border by a former Chinese military official. That land is very close to Laughlin Air Base. It actually surrounds that sensitive airbase.”
“This is very concerning,” Carter said on Hannity. “I spoke with U.S. intelligence as well as foreign intelligence officials about this. And they say they’ve been sounding the alarms for quite some time and they’re very concerned that it already might be too late.”
And President Biden ended the China Initiative.
