GAI’s Eric Eggers framed Minnesota’s ICE controversy as a political smokescreen. The real story, he says, is fraud. Appearing on Greg Kelly’s Newsmax program, Eggers says Democrats are amplifying the “federal overreach” rhetoric and warning of an ICE “crackdown” in order to distract from recent highlighting of massive fraud, corruption, and abuse within Minnesota’s welfare system.
Eggers points to alleged large-scale Somali fraud, potentially totaling into the billions of dollars, and believes federal scrutiny intensified during Tim Walz’s governorship, which may explain why ICE-related activity is escalating in the state. He warns that officials and activists are attempting to inflame public outrage—encouraging citizens to film encounters and confront agents—potentially setting the stage for viral flashpoints and another national unrest cycle.
“Tim Walz has a terrific — and horrible — track record of impeding investigation,” Eggers said. “On our podcast, The DrillDown, we had a Minnesota state legislator tell us he was sitting next to a Democrat state senator who got a phone call from Tim Walz, telling her to kill what would have been the creation of an independent inspector general’s office, which actually would have had subpoena and charging power.”
“They could have put an end to this criminal enterprise a long time ago, but Tim Walz helped to kill it. So, of course they’re eager to talk about anything but the Somali fraud. It captivated the nation, which is why we had ICE officials there in the first place,” he said.
State Democratic leaders have been denouncing the Trump administration for its aggressive arrests of illegal immigrants living mostly in Minneapolis. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), herself a naturalized citizen from Somalia, told a group of supporters, “What we are witnessing right now is unprecedented, and there is no modern precedent for this level of federal overreach, violence, lawlessness carried out in the name of immigration enforcement.”
Rep. Omar has herself been linked to some of those prosecuted for defrauding the state’s food programs.
“Ilhan Omar, Amy Klobuchar and some other top-line officials in the Democrat Party have time to talk about this ICE controversy, but they didn’t have a whole lot of time to talk about why ICE is actually there. It’s because of the rampant, record-breaking fraud that Somalis were committing in the state of Minnesota under Tim Walz’s watch,” Eggers said.
