Title 42 is ending because COVID is no longer a problem.
Masks on airplanes will continue for two more weeks because COVID is a problem.
At this point no one should be surprised that the Biden Administration isn’t “following the science” so much as its following bureaucratic “gut-feelings” and double talk from unelected officials with too much power over everyday Americans. The hypocrisy is astounding.
On Title 42, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky writes, “Following an assessment of the current epidemiologic status of the COVID-19 pandemic and the U.S. government’s ongoing response efforts, I find there is no longer a public health justification for the August order and previous orders issued under these authorities.”
Okay, so no more Title 42. Is that bad? Yes, absolutely.
The Department of Homeland Security estimates that up to 18,000 migrants could be apprehended at the border each day once Title 42 is lifted. The Biden Administration is on track to break last year’s record — as many as 2.3 million migrant encounters are expected in 2022.
So, the border is on fire and we’re ending critical health and safety policies.
But, ya know, COVID is done right? We don’t have to worry about the virus anymore. Wait — did you say you’re flying? Sorry, you definitely need a mask. Don’t even think about getting on a plane without one. According to the CDC, it’s essential you wear one.
COVID protections against illegal migrants? Lifted. Plane masking for Americans? Extended.
“CDC continues to monitor the spread of the Omicron variant, especially the BA.2 subvariant that now makes up more than 85% of U.S. cases,” said CDC spokesperson Kristen Nordlund. “Since early April, there have been increases in the 7-day moving average of cases in the U.S. In order to assess the potential impact the rise of cases has on severe disease, including hospitalizations and deaths, and health care system capacity, the CDC Order will remain in place at this time. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has decided to extend the security directive and emergency amendment for 15 days, through May 3, 2022.”
Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) shared news of the mask extension on Twitter. Paul has been railing against plane masking as the science just doesn’t show significant protection.
“No surprise — Biden continues to mandate wearing ineffective masks on planes —time to vote out these petty tyrants,” Paul tweeted.
Remember when it was “two weeks to slow the spread?”
Yeah, me neither.
