As previously reported on The Drill Down…
[Hunter Biden] is way too close to the Oval. Americans can’t count on Garland’s DOJ or anyone else under presidential purview —there needs to be a special counsel appointed. Even if US attorney for Delaware David Weiss corners Hunter in his case, he may miss the ripest plums: influence peddling and corruption.
Attorney General Merrick Garland appeared in front of the Senate Appropriations Committee on Tuesday and rejected the idea that Hunter Biden’s influence peddling and corruption scheme needs a Special Counsel. In fact, Garland is “quite comfortable” with the job Weiss is doing.
“I’m quite comfortable with the U.S. Attorney for that district continuing in the role that he’s playing,” Garland told Republican Indiana Sen. Mike Braun.
Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) asked Garland whether or not President Biden has meddled.
“I’d like for you to tell me, or answer this question, if you would. Would you think it would be appropriate for the president of the United States to call you into the Oval Office and tell you that his son didn’t break the law, regarding this matter?” Hagerty asked.
“Absolutely not and the president has not done that, and the president has committed not to interfere, not only in that investigation but any other kind of investigation,” Garland replied.
Hagerty then reminded Garland that the White House has already rolled out the talking points and they are being parrotted by press secretary Jen Psaki, Chief of Staff Ron Klain and Communications Director Kate Bedingfield. The message: Joe innocent, not involved.
“The president has already told his subordinates; clearly, these are people that he can fire at will, that he and his family did nothing wrong. How can the American people be confident that his administration is conducting a serious investigation?” the senator asked.
“Because we put the investigation in the hands of a Trump appointee from the previous administration, who’s the U.S. Attorney for the District of Delaware. And because you have me as the Attorney General, who is committed to the independence of the Justice Department from any influence from the White House in criminal matters,” Garland shot back.
So we’re essentially in “trust me” territory here.
Meanwhile, Psaki continues to dodge questions on Hunter Biden at every press conference, promising to “get answers” but never does. She doesn’t want to talk about Hunter —no one wants to talk about Hunter.
Because his actions are indefensible.
