America’s schools were once a mark of our greatness, but as America declined, so too did our schools. This decline is more than a downward trend in literacy and math performance—it’s awakening the worst impulses in our public officials to cover up anything that would cast them in a poor light, including crimes like rape and sexual assault.
On the latest episode of the Drill Down podcast, Peter Schweizer and Eric Eggers are joined by Luke Rosiak to discuss his new book, Race to the Bottom, which details the national crisis of accountability in America’s schools and is available now anywhere books are sold.
Luke brought national attention to one of the most heinous education cover-ups in recent memory. In Loudon County, Virginia, a child was raped by a classmate, but the school told the father to keep quiet about the matter. Later, the father learned that other children were also brutalized by that same student and also told to keep quiet. Rosiak’s exposure of this horror show arguably impacted the outcome of the Virginia gubernatorial election in 2021.
Luke’s book is more than a recounting of heartbreaking stories, it’s a deep dive into the statistical voodoo that our schools employ to protect underperforming teachers and ineffective policy from Seattle and Minneapolis to Boise.
