Whatever the state of the war with Iran, the November midterm elections will hinge on the price at the pump, said Eric Eggers of the Government Accountability Institute.
Even as the US pressures Iran over control of Middle East shipping lanes, American voters “will care less about who’s actually in control of the Strait of Hormuz, and care more about the amount of money it costs to fill up their gas tank.”
“The Trump administration is trying to ensure that gas prices continue to come down, and I know they’ve made some positive steps there recently,” Eggers told Erick Stackelbeck on his news program. “They want to continue to secure America’s foreign interests abroad and protect American businesses and those that have to send their ships through that area. But I think gas prices and affordability will be the number one issue that influences voters this November and ultimately will decide control of the Senate and the House.”
Eggers is the author of a 2018 book called Fraud: How the Left Plans to Steal the Next Election, and Stakelbeck asks about Trump’s recent national address on election security, and a follow-up briefing by Homeland secretary Markwayne Mullin that revealed Chinese theft of about 220 million voter registration records in 2020. This intelligence was deliberately excluded by national security bureaucrats from the daily intelligence briefings Trump received in 2020 during his first term.
“China was doing what they’ve always done,” Eggers said. “They did the same thing a couple of years ago to England, where they hacked 40 million different voter files,” he said, noting that after that occurred, “the Biden administration actually responded, imposed sanctions against China, and brought criminal charges against the people responsible for it.”
Eggers noted that after the 2016 election that Trump won over Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, left-leaning groups criticized particular, screen-based voting systems like that sold by Dominion Voting Systems for being insecure.
“If you look at NPR, CNN, or even the George Soros-funded Brennan Center for Justice, they were talking about how easily hacked and vulnerable our election systems and cybersecurity was leading up to the 2020 election,” Eggers said.
A 2019 letter signed by several prominent Democratic senators, including Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Ron Wyden (D-OR), and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) was sent to H.I.G. Capital, the owner of Dominion Voting Systems, noting, “We are particularly concerned that secretive and ‘trouble-plagued companies,’ owned by private equity firms and responsible for manufacturing and maintaining voting machines and other election administration equipment, ‘have long skimped on security in favor of convenience,’ leaving voting systems across the country ‘prone to security problems.’”
During Trump’s first term and again in his second, Homeland security officials have asked each of the states to provide their voter rolls so they could be analyzed for possible inclusion of non-citizens, non-residents, and even dead people. Eighteen of the states, all run by Democratic governors or legislative majorities, have declined to furnish that information.
“China was able to acquire voter data in 2020 that Democrat-run states refused to give the Department of Justice in 2026,” Eggers told Stakelbeck. “That’s where I think people should be focused and concerned. China has stuff that these blue-run states don’t want to give to our own federal government.”
From just the states that have furnished their voter roll information, Mullin said in his briefing, DHS found “about 274,000 illegal immigrants being registered to vote in just a few states that have turned over the data. That’s among the more troubling findings,” Eggers said. “That’s the stuff the news should be reporting.”
Eggers and Stakelbeck also touched on the “birth tourism” issue that was raised by GAI’s research for Peter Schweizer’s bestselling book, The Invisible Coup. Schweizer documented that as many as one million Chinese babies were born to visiting Chinese mothers in the last 14 years within US territory, making them birthright American citizens, following the Supreme Court’s decision last month.
“I think you’ll see that Homeland Security goes after companies that are encouraging visa fraud, the companies that are actively recruiting people from China to exploit those birth tourism areas,” Eggers predicted. “I think you will see significant criminal penalties. We’ve already seen a change in the guidance [border agents] are given, not letting visitors lie about being pregnant, and not letting people in who are obviously here to have a child into the country.”
