THE KINDNESS CON: SEL Teachers Cheered Charlie Kirk's Death — And Taught Students to Do the Same

Parents were promised kindness. What they got instead, says author Priscilla West, was an ideological weapon — one that dresses itself in compassion while breeding cruelty.

In her new book, The New Face of Woke Education, West exposes how Social Emotional Learning (SEL) — once sold as a tool for empathy — has become a pipeline for political indoctrination, funded by billionaires, endorsed by global agencies, and embedded across American classrooms.

Her latest thread, posted after the assassination of Charlie Kirk, shows the movement’s darker face: teachers who’d been trained to “teach kindness” celebrating a man’s murder.

“Parents were promised kindness,” West wrote. “But after Charlie Kirk was killed, SEL-trained teachers cheered — and their students follow suit.”

Teachers Without Empathy

West’s thread lists some of the most jarring examples — educators from across the country whose schools proudly advertise daily SEL routines, “trauma-informed” practices, and emotional learning initiatives.

Amanda Dodson, Lancaster, PA – The “connection” teacher who said she had “absolutely no empathy” for Kirk, calling him “racist, xenophobic, transphobic, sexist.” Her school pushes SEL as a daily ritual.

AnneMarie Donahue, Wachusett Regional HS, MA – Declared, “Just a reminder, we’re NOT offering sympathy.” She preaches that “student emotions must be honored” — but only certain ones.

Wynne Boliek, Brashier Middle College HS, SC – Posted “America became greater today.” Boliek promotes UN-backed TeachSDGs and an “inclusive” trans curriculum. West notes that “when globalist frameworks replace morality, activism replaces empathy.”

Shawnna Worrell, Hannan Elementary, GA – Cheered a call for political violence: “Yes!!!!! Finally someone… is being honest!!!!!!” Her classroom runs on SEL-branded books and daily “feelings circles.”

Ben Fillo, Barrington HS, RI – Wrote: “What a piece of garbage… Bye, Charlie.” He helped write his district’s SEL framework. Students later appealed to the school board over his post.

Seth Vaughn, Mercer County, WV – Posted: “At least… took a real piece of s**t…” and “More of this!” His district weaves SEL into every subject. West calls it “sanctioned cruelty from the arbiters of character education.”

Rachael O’Connor, Miamisburg County, OH – Told her class Kirk was a “terrible person.” Her district partners with a Zuckerberg- and Gates-funded nonprofit and was praised by PBS for promoting “belonging.”

Steve Aylward, same district – Claimed Kirk “had been calling for this.” Both teachers kept their jobs under “last chance” agreements.

Michael Todd, Heritage Hall, OK – Mocked Kirk’s death: “Hope the gun is okay. It worked very hard, and it was very loud!” His elite private school uses Positive Education — SEL by another name.

Jennifer Courtemanche, Goose Creek ISD, TX – Asked if Kirk’s killing was “the consequences of his actions catching up with him?” Her district’s SEL staff ballooned from two to fifteen in two years.

The Mask Comes Off

“When Charlie Kirk was assassinated, our schools revealed a rot within,” West writes. “Good teachers and responsible policymakers want no part of it.”

What was marketed as a movement for empathy, she argues, has become a moral inversion — a billion-dollar structure that preaches “belonging” while training children to sort humanity into villains and victims.

“What was sold as ‘teaching kindness’ became a machine funded by Gates, backed by UN partners, rooted in radical ideology.”

West’s book connects the dots — from CASEL to UNESCO, from “circle time” to surveillance apps — showing how Social Emotional Learning went from heart-based education to political catechism.

Her warning is both chilling and clear: When empathy is politicized, cruelty becomes virtue.

About The New Face of Woke Education

Sold to parents and teachers as harmless programming for “emotional intelligence,” Social Emotional Learning (SEL) became – with the use of cloud-based technology – a centralized apparatus for values transmission that threatens the autonomy of future generations. Transparency is their enemy. In this Broadside, Priscilla West exposes SEL as a toxic brew of psychology and sustainability, promoted by an alliance of billionaires, politicians, and consultants at the expense of true education. Only by confronting it can we hold the education-industrial complex accountable and reclaim our schools for authentic learning.
