Comic-Con ’09: Flynn’s Arcade

If there were two things that were an iconic part of my formative years of growing up in the ’80s, it would be the movie “Tron” and videogame arcades. So imagine my excitement as I visited Disney’s viral marketing live walkthrough of Flynn’s Arcade. For those unfamiliar with the original film, Jeff Bridges character, Kevin Flynn, was a game programmer and arcade proprietor before he got zapped into the game grid of Tron. Flynn’s is a re-creation of that arcade.

Walking into Flynn’s is like stepping into the past. 80′s music and broken neon; Track and Field, Pac-Man, Berzerk, Centipede…all the classics, games I’d thought I’d long since forgotten. And Space Paranoids. That’s right, not Tron, but a full, playable version of Space Paranoids, the faux videogame featured in the film.

Suddenly, the rockin’ sounds of Journey stopped, a crunch of static filled the air and the lights went dim. We soon discovered that the real secret at Flynn’s was in what lies behind the Tron arcade game…..

Update
: Our friends at Latino Review pointed me to the soundtrack to this experience, Daft Punk’s Tron Legacy theme (Yes, Daft Punk is doing the soundtrack!)
