Comic-Con ’09: LOST Panel highlights

I’m a huge LOST fan. In my opinion it’s the most ambitious and engaging long-form tale ever told. So for me, this panel was the highlight of my trip to Comic-Con. Showrunners Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse notoriously put on a great show every year, and they did not disappoint once again. They kicked off the presentation by showing a couple of clips they said would offer a hint as to what’s in store for Season Six.
Judging from these clips it would seem that Juliet was successful at detonating the bomb at the end of Season Five, and Faraday’s hypothesis was correct– the explosion would create a singularity event that would effectively reset the timeline as if the last seasons had never happened. As if they had sensed the anticipation of the crowd, that this would be a cop-out of an ending, Damon and Carlton brought their first Q&A guest up to the mic.
This was followed by a few more questions, both by real conventioneers and Human Giant’s Paul Scheer (who presented a black velvet painting of Damon and Carlton posing with a polar bear), and FirstShowing.net’s ever-present Bob Stencil (who started to nosebleed during his question and needed his “constant”– a beer– to focus him)

Additional loaded questions brought Nestor Carbonell (Richard Alpert) and Josh Holloway (Sawyer) onto the panel, and a very funny tribute to all the characters who had ever died on LOST brought to the stage Charlie Pace himself, Dominic Monaghan. All in all, it was a fitting final tribute to a show that leaves behind a rich legacy and very loyal viewers.
